Author
Maritha Burmeister grew up twenty miles from New York City and remembers the excitement as a child of visiting the city sights -- Radio City Music Hall, Central Park, and the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. Though now a Texas living in San Antonio, Maritha returns frequently to New York City to visit three grandchildren who live with their parents in Greenwich Village.
It was on such a visit that Maritha became inspired to write The Twelve Dog Days of Christmas in New York City. When her five-year-old granddaughter stopped to inspect and pet every dog she encountered on their way to a childrens' play, Maritha realized that the city's dogs are one of its greatest attractions.
After graduation from Baylor University, Maritha married a Texan. She then received a doctorate in genetics from the University of Texas, taught at the college level and became a college administrator. Maritha and her husband, Charles, have four children. Along the way, Maritha continued to write, has several magazine articles to her credit and won the first ABC’s Picture Book Competition for The Twelve Dog Days of Christmas in New York City.
